I was hired by dublab, an online radio platform, to create the design system for their 2022 anniversary fundraiser and This Ain’t No Picnic music festival. My designs were used for promotional materials, social media posts, and merchandise for both events.
For the anniversary concert, I recreated dublab’s iconic “d” logo in 3D. This provided me the ability to add textures and animations to the shape that would not have been possible otherwise. I covered the object in a shimmering glossy texture, rendering it almost glass-like. Using screenprinting color-separating techniques, I transformed each image into a stippled cloud of colored dots. This system was meant to engage with dublab’s existing aesthetic, which blends illustrative elements and digitally rendered graphics. As part of the promotional material, I created a 3D model of the event space, using colored lights to demarcate the individual performance spaces. Elements from this body of work were used as background animations during the concert itself.
For This Ain’t No Picnic I “grew” grass and flowers out of the 3D rendered version of dublab’s logo. In creating the type I again wanted to lean into the space between hand-drawn cartoons and virtually modeled graphics.
